Talking with Michelle, who wanted to make something for her son's class, I suggest we make the groundhog so he can come in and out of his hole. She could put the ground and grass around a dixie cup. Put the ground hog together, attach him to a straw, poke a hole in the cup, let the ground hog pop up when the kids wiggle the stick. Or just use a popsicle stick and make the flat picture, have room for the ground hog to come in and out of his hole, between the green grass and the brown ground layer. I figured I might as well post the file here. I don't have a dixie cup so I don't know abuot the size. You'd have to play around with it, but there is no reason you can't resize the ground and grass to any size you want.
