NOTE: THESE FILES ARE SET TO WORK WITH 12x12 or 12x24 mat, not for the 6x12. CRICUT EXPRESSION only. On smaller cricut, you could do two at a time. But you would waste your paper you cut the photo mat out of.

I created two files, one to crop the photos, the other to make the frame. I added a tiny square in the same locations on both inkscape/svg files to make them both "resize" to the same size in Sure Cuts A Lot. Please don't delete them, or you will find your photos and frames won't line up. To use the file, set library size to 11.5 inches. Make sure your scal CURSOR is in the upper left hand corner of your scal mat. Then import the file with the word photo in it. PUT YOUR BACKGROUND PAPER for your page on the mat. Cut the Photo file. This will leave you with outlines of where the photos will go on the completed page. Now remove the inside of the cuts.Carefully put your photos under the mat so that they will be cropped the way you want them to be.Remove the background paper mat, leaving on the photos.Cut the file with photo in it again. You will be left with the "cropped" photos. Remove your photos and put your MAT color paper on the cricut mat.
Make sure your scal CURSOR is in the upper left hand corner of your scal mat on screen. Then import the file and cut the file without the word photo in it. This will cut your mats. Because we don't want to waste paper, glue your mats on top of the background paper that you cut the photo mat out of. It won't matter, as the frames will cover the holes left from the photos.

Glue your cropped pictures into the frames. Add embellishments. Instant scrapbook page! Cropped pictures within matching frames.

I made the different versions, after realizing that all my photos are not oriented the same way. Some need vertical cropping and some need horizontal.

    Enjoy!

SVG Files to Crop Your Photos and Make Your Frames in Fancy Shapes

The other day I generated a bunch of shapes for frames. Those are nice, but I still needed a way to crop my pictures in the same shape. Easy enough to do it they are "round", as I have a circle cutter. But what about other shapes, like the labels?

I decided to play around with SCAL and Inkscape, and see if I could come up with a way to crop my photos accurately and make the matching frames, in some different shapes. In this way, I could quickly turn out some professional, yet unique scrapbook pages.

Now remove the inside of the cuts.

Carefully put your photos under the mat so that they will be cropped the way you want them to be.

Remove the background paper mat, leaving on the photos.

Cut the file with photo in it again.

I created this for the shape you see in the pictures.

Use to make matching photo frames

    TIPS:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 12x12 or larger mat

Make sure cursor is in upper left corner of scal virtual on screen mat before importing the files

Make sure library size is set to 11.5 inches

Make sure you load mat in the same way each time...use the arrow to make sure you don't put it in upside down when you go to crop the photos.

Make your own Frame with Words Around It

Would you like to make a frame like this with your own message?

to start, Download the following file. It contains the components I used to make the rectangular frames, with the words around it.

    BLANK_FRAME_COMPONENTS.svg
    http://www.mediafire.com/?miz44ryum0y

The words that are there, can be changed to any phrase you want. The font in the components file was ravie. It helps if you choose a font where the letters are the same height and the widths of all the letters are about the same. Ravie isn't. If I choose one that isn't, I resize the letters to make them the same(though that means you have to type each on in separately!).
I found that the font TYE PALOON worked well as it is monospaced and used it on the close up of the First Christmas frame. The other font on the second first christmas frame(where she is smiling) was yesterday brk and is a little hard to read.

You need to size it to fit within the space of the frame provided(or just resize the whole frame larger!) I have it set up to be a 4 by 6 inch frame. If your picture needs to be oriented to by 6x4, rotate the whole thing, before you add your text. To make the vertical text, I just type in one letter, press enter, next letter, enter, etc.
Do you know the following inkscape shortcuts to help you weld and move letters around, once you have typed them in? Place cursor at end of word and repeatedly press

Alt LEFT ANGLE BRACKET Reduces spacing between all the letters in the phrase(making them closer together)

alt RIGHT ANGLE BRACKET increases spacing between all the letters in the phrase(making them further apart )

To move a letter "up", place cursor before the letter you want to move
    alt up arrow

    to move a letter down
place cursor before the letter you want to move
    alt down arrow

to move a single letter left or right
place cursor before the letter you want to move
alt left arrow or alt right arrow

These commands are useful for when you just want to make a title and weld the letters together(path...UNION in inkscape)

Once you have the phrase you want to move it to the appropriate place on the frame template I provide in the file. If it is the phrase for the top, move the phrase so it is touching the inner frame and the frame border piece. Select the phrase and the inner frame border, select PATH...UNION. Does it look like every letter is connected at the bottom to the inner frame? If not, Undo. Then move the phrase slightly and try again. Now select the phrase and the top border and do path...union. Once again, check that the result is as you wanted. It is hard to go back later, without having to do all the steps again. Change your view to outline to get a good look. Do this for the phrases for the sides and bottom of your frame too. You could make Happy Birthday or anything you want.

I can't wait for you to try it! It is a quick way to get a professional, customized frame for you picture, and you only have to glue on ONE PIECE! That is the part I like! Please leave me a comment if you try it and have good results! If you have trouble, let me know so I can change the instructions slightly!

Scrapbook Page Layout to cut on Cricut if you have SCAL

I have created another complete layout for your scrapbook page, to cut out on your Cricut if you have the Sure Cuts A Lot software. This is a versatile mosaic type page. By rotating it or flipping it, you can vary the placement of the picture and make it look different. If you cut out two separate layouts from double-sided paper, you can interchange the pieces to get the patchwork look. The svg file includes the frame with the rectangles, and the hearts, circles and stars, to mix and match for embellishments. The lollipop came from the paper dolls cartridge. The font I used for the lettering was 2 PEAS GIGGLE.I sized the frames to be able to be cut from a 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. If you have a 12x12 piece of paper on the mat, you will be able to fit the letters for your titles on the right hand side of the paper.

The block for the photo is 4 x 4 inches. You could put 2x2 inch photos in some of the squares. You can let the background paper show through on some of the squares too. You could embellish the squares with stickers, instead of the cut outs.
Though I used Christmas paper, and paper will do. Using double sided paper, where there is a coordinating color or pattern on the back, just simplifies your cutting.
The paper I used was a Martha Stewart paper pad I picked up at Walmart, at the clearance sale. I might go see if they have any at 75% off.

Fairy Tale Princess Frame to cut on your Cricut

This princess frame is for the princess in all of us. It is for those of us who believe that we can still live happily ever after. There are two ways to make these frames. You can cut the letters out of the frame, but then you have to use a stencil font. That didn't seem appropriate for this girly frame. I decided to make the words cut out of a different color, and then glue each on on the frame. This is a little more tedious, but not too bad, as the words have been welded. The words show up better this way and you can use any font. Besides, I'm probably going to only make one, so the extra time doesn't matter. If you decide to make many, you may want to do something similar and let the cricut cut the words out of the frame.

Since I cut this, I changed the princess in the upper right corner to a crown. IT was inside a circle, and it didn't look right..I had to cut it out with my scissors, after the cricut was done.

I hope you find a use for this frame for the princess in your life!

Free Svg Sweetheart Frame to cut on your Cricut!

This frame is made using the font SP Sweetie Pie. All the embellishments come from the font. I just opened up inkscape, and drew two rectangles. Then I selected the font SP Sweetie Pie, and clicked set default. Then I selected the text input mode(the A on the left menu bar). Then I typed in each letter of the alphabet, keeping the ones I thought I might want on the frame. Important step: A font must be converted to a path before it will show up in SCAL Sure Cuts A Lot. Select the letter, then select Path-object to path

Free SVG Christmas Frames for SCAL

These frames would make the perfect mats for your Christmas photos. You could put them in your scrapbook, or in a frame, and give to Grandma a great holiday photo of you beautiful children.

The first frame had words associated with our modern day Christmas celebration. It includes santa and a gift and some decorations.

The second frame acknowleges the reason for the season, and says Happy Birthday Jesus. It includes the wisemen and an angel and Peace and noel.

By the way, you can either glue in the tiny pieces from the middle of the letter A's and o's and y's, or just draw them in with a marker the same color as your cut. I usually just draw them in, especially if you make the frame any smaller. I cut mine out about 8" by 10".
You can get the svg file here:
    And the scut file here:
I will also put these under holiday in the sure cuts a lot users group on yahoo.
I hope you can find a use for these frames in your Holiday albums.
