Leaves are greening up nicely and we are enjoying a beautiful weekend. Took a canoe ride, son took a swim at the beach, we went on a walk along Halberstadt Road and saw a newborn fawn last night!

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Drought Article

It was published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel yesterday that "Lakes in northern Wisconsin are shriveling." Pretty alarming statement for those who don't live here! Some of the waterways are controlled by dams on the Wisconsin River and many are naturally spring fed. Speaking from personal experience, having lived in St. Germain for 45 years, I have seen it worse back in the 60's and again in the 80's. Anyway, we have received several calls and E-mails as a result of the article and want to re-assure our guests that yes, lake levels are down, but it depends on where you are at. Our lake - Little St. Germain - is down only slightly and water sports have not been affected. These photos were taken on Sunday, May 23, at our lake front.

There are over 1,200 lakes in our county and only a portion of those have seen drastic changes in levels - mostly those that are directly connected to the Wisconsin River system. We are not arguing the drought nor the fact that some lakes are suffering - it is just simply part of our natural cycle and not all the lakes are affected. Eventually the jet stream will shift again and our precipitation will come back to more normal levels - history shows it. So, rest assured - your lakeside vacation at Black Bear Lodge in the Northwoods will be just fine! Feel free to call us if you have any questions whatsoever.

Two eagles spotted in Upper East Bay, Lt St Germain Lake

Beautiful weather today and many were out to enjoy the lake -- boating, fishing and water skiing too. The nest in Upper East Bay had a resident bald eagle plus another perched on a neighboring branch. We have had as many as 7 at one time in the pine trees along our lakefront this spring! -Diane

Classic Sled Roundup - Huge Success!

Snowmobile enthusiasts from all around congregated right here in St. Germain over the holiday weekend. On Sunday, May 24, a tremendous display of vintage and antique sleds were found plus a huge snowmobile swap meet and food was offered by the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club.



The Classic Sled Roundup was presented by Arctic Cat and the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame (which is right here in St. Germain, WI!) Click for more info.
